Seasonal and Holiday Volunteering

Safe Harvest Halloween Event-A Safe Way for Children to Trick-or-Treat! (10/31/2017, 4-8:30 PM)

Volunteers and donations are needed to put on this fun event for 1400+ children and families living in temporary housing! If you and a group of friends/ family/ coworkers are willing to host a carnival booth, man the prize booth, be a candy runner, help with distributing food, help with parking, set-up or tear-down to provide a safe Halloween for these families, then email the Volunteer Manager (volunteer@grandmashouseofhope.org) for more details!

Thanksgiving Meals

We need Thanksgiving Dinner side dishes and dessert for 6 shelter locations (approximately 108 women and 16 men) in our emergency and transitional housing program. Sign-up to donate a side dish or dessert and we’ll assign you a location (Anaheim or Garden Grove). Dishes should be dropped off between 10 AM and 12 noon on Thanksgiving Day. If you are interested in this opportunity, email volunteer@grandmashouseofhope.org!

Decorate our Homes for the Holiday Season

Help deck the halls and spread Christmas cheer at one of our 6 shelter locations (12 homes), located in North Orange County. Bring a Christmas tree, tree decorations, Christmas lights and home decorations to the shelter. 8 standard and 7 table top trees (pre-decorated) with stands are needed for various locations. Please plan to decorate before December 11.

Sponsor a Resident for Christmas!

We seek individuals or a group to provide holiday gifts for the men and women living in our emergency and transitional housing program. These men and women could use some pampering, love and hope this Christmas. We need 124 gift bags to be filled with requested gift items (Price range is $50-$75). You will be provided with a first name and wish list for each person you adopt. Deliver to our Santa Ana office weekdays from 9 AM- 5PM by December 11. If you are interested in this opportunity, please email the Volunteer Manager at volunteer@grandmashouseofhope.org.

Holiday Toy Drive for Children Who Live in Motels

Toys for children 0-18 who live in local motels. For the younger children, we are looking for toys that can easily be played in a motel environment (nothing too noisy or that would require other parts and can be carried up and down the stairs). We particularly need gifts for ages 12+ such as gift cards to places like Target, Walmart, the movies, etc. Deliver items by December 11 to our Santa Ana office weekdays from 9 AM- 5PM.

Gifts for Mommy and Daddy Donation Drive

Low-income families struggle to make the holidays enjoyable for their children. Children don’t have an allowance and can’t reciprocate the giving. Help us stock “Santa’s Workshop” held during our Motel Christmas Party on December 16th. Donate options for kids to choose a gift for their parents. Gifts for Dad – ties, men’s cologne, tool kits (no knives), screw drivers, basic watches or hats. Gifts for Mom – scarves, beauty kits, journals, accessories or costume jewelry. Deliver items by December 11 to our Santa Ana office weekdays from 9 AM- 5PM.

Holiday Toy Drive for Grandchildren of Transitional Housing Men and Women

The women and men in our housing program often have grandchildren they would love to provide Christmas gifts for. Help make the season of giving that much better by helping grandparents give good gifts to their grandkids. New toys and gifts for children 0-18 would give grandparents a way to take part in gift giving. We particularly need gifts for ages 12+ such as gift cards to places like Target, Walmart, the movies, etc.

Christmas Gift Wrapping ( Dec. 13-15, 2017)

Presents aren’t presents until they are wrapped! Join us to help wrap all the wonderful gifts for the men and women, children and families we serve. Various times available at our donation center in Garden Grove.  If you are interested in this opportunity, please email the Volunteer Manager at volunteer@grandmashouseofhope.org.

Donate to our traditional Christmas Day at the Movies

We seek generous people to help us make Christmas Day festive and fun for the men and women in our Transitional Program. Christmas Day at the Movies is an afternoon activity we do every year. We are in need of movie tickets to the Regal Theaters. This could be in the form of gift cards to the theater. We need Regal tickets for 124 men and women and gift cards for popcorn/ concessions would be an extra special treat!

Children’s Christmas Party (Sat., Dec 16, 2017)

Grandma’s House of Hope is having a Christmas party at the El Dorado Inn in Anaheim. We seek volunteers to cook food and to assist with our Santa’s Workshop. The Santa’s Workshop is a way for the children to provide presents for their parents. Volunteers can help gift wrap, do crafts with the children and help the children “shop” for gift items for their parents. We’ll also have a table of new clothes that donors may give as gifts (socks, sweaters, etc). We are also looking for individuals or groups who would be willing to provide plain stockings and stocking stuffers and help these children provide gifts for their parents.  Children’s Christmas Party needs to be planned with the Volunteer Manager ahead of time, if you are interested in this opportunity, email volunteer@grandmashouseofhope.org!

Christmas Meals

We are in need of people with generous hearts to prepare Christmas dinner and dessert for 6 shelter locations (approximately 108 women and 16 men) in our emergency and transitional housing program. Sign-up to donate a meal and we’ll assign you a location (Anaheim or Garden Grove). Dinner should be delivered by 2 pm on Christmas Day.  If you are interested in this opportunity, email volunteer@grandmashouseofhope.org!
